Moab, ah Moab. What a cute town, that would have been so much more enjoyed if Steve hadn’t had to spend 4 hours on the phone with a call center in India for Dell, who is holding onto a bunch of our money after we canceled a purchase 4 days ago.
And then, in the middle of the night, Nathan got super croupy, as he has a tendency to do every now and again. The air conditioning in the hotel rooms, the dry desert air and a little cold compounded into him wheezing quite badly around 4am. Thankfully , I had packed his medication for such things and that kicked in fairly quickly, at about the same time that he was wide awake and full of questions. We talked for about an hour, pontificating upon why lamps have shades, what would happen if there was a fire in the room, and the wonder of rental cars.
We rolled into town at about 4pm, surprised to find that there were few hotels or motels left. Surprisingly, hanging out in 107 degree heat and looking at red rocks is a very popular tourist attraction. Seriously, though, Moab is quite gorgeous and I’m glad we stopped here, in spite of a great many foibles and frustrations along the way, including sneaking the cats into a non-pet-friendly hotel, thinking we lost Helen when she crawled deep into the mattress frame, and the fact that Steve just got pulled over for speeding as a write this. He was going 8 mph over the speed limit.
Wow. He just got let off with a warning. Maybe our luck is changing!
I did have a nice b-day dinner at the Moab Brewery, and my "cake" was an ice cream sandwich from a place called Hogi-Yogi, where you pick two soft baked cookies and your flavor of ice cream. Almost as good as the homemade stuff my dad made before we left, but not quite.
Anyway, I feel like I've been celebrating my birthday for two weeks, and I guess I actually sort of have, so hello 34. I face you head on with no regrets. Well, other than the extra Big Mac that Steve and I split today for lunch. They accidentally put it in our bag for free. What were we supposed to do, throw it away????
